About Artist

‘Art is a lie that makes us conscious of the truth’    Picasso

There’s nothing quite like opening with a pretentious quote. That said, it would probably have taken me two pages of pontificating to get anywhere close to what he has summed up in ten words.

So, about the artist. I never feel comfortable when people are identified or categorized by what they do as in ‘Artist’. Nobody calls me gardener when I cut the grass. Such is the nature of semantics I suppose.  ‘If you are what you do, then when you don’t you aren’t’
Said the walrus to the badger.

I was born and bred on the edge of east London. I have lived in various parts of the UK such as North London, Cambridge, Kent, Hereford and Colchester. I like Chinese food, 70’s sitcoms, Tom Waits, car boot sales, silence, Magritte, pubs in the country, shiny conkers, rockabilly’s, animals, dogs with wet noses, hot soup on rainy days, insects, wood burning stoves, the smell of autumn, stella artois, light broken by trees, Terry Thomas’s teeth, the musty smell of old wood, twilight and twiglets. I take a size eight shoe, and suffer from chronic flippancy. Enough?

I opened with a quotation from Picasso and will close with a quotation from my grandmother.

‘Clean your glasses everyday, because you cant be optimistic with a misty optic’.

Here’s a photo of me and Figgie the fly in happier times.

I hope you enjoy the work.
